MOON

by

Amanda Leigh Graves

Oh, lonely moon

Do you see what is happening?

Down here at night . . . . . . while you rule the sky

With your star children gleaming

You constantly smile

      Giving us your silvery warmth

             Watching over our sleeping children

Lovers wrapped in their solitude

Our sneaking thieves plundering homes

      Sleep-ridden insomniacs roaming the streets

But can you see me down here  ...  drowning in emotion?

My eyes stained with sorrow ...

Oh, happy moon ... are you happy

Because you refuse to see the sadness?
