- Aeon Magazine Pays 3 cents per word for science fiction, fantasy, dark fantasy, horror, magic realism, and everything in between. Our guidelines are simple: your story needs to be speculative in nature, and it needs to kick our (collective) ass. Stories should be 7,500 words and under, but will consider longer works also. - Albedo One They are looking for thoughtful, well written speculative fiction. Their definition of what constitutes SF, horror and fantasy is extremely broad and love to see material which pushes at the boundaries. They accept both postal and electronic submissions. - Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine Looking for nearly every kind of mystery. Prefers stories of detection of the classic kind, police procedurals, private eye tales, suspense, courtroom dramas, stories of espionage, and so on. The story must be about a crime (or the threat or fear of one). They sometimes accept ghost stories or supernatural tales, but those also should involve a crime. - Alien Skin Science Fiction, Fantasy, or Horror. All stories MUST contain story basics of character, conflict, action and resolution. No excessive blood or gore. - Andwerve An online magazine that publishes poetry and prose that goes against the normal strains. Usually when I see a description like this my first impression is "Ah! They publish crap." However, that impression would be wrong on this site. There is some wonderful writing to be found here. Their submissions guidelines offer more specific guidance. They don't accept email submissions. but they have a very nice electronic submissions form on their guidelines page.
- Angler A new ezine featuring literary fiction and creative non-fiction. They're a non-paying market. Their non-fiction features some of my favorite subjects, including beer, art, beer, wine, cheese and beer. Did I mention they write about beer? Their submissions guidelines are about three pages long, but are actually quite writer-friendly. Send submissions in the body of an email. Don't send attachments unless specifically invited.
