Welcome to Michael's Pub -- a respite for the struggling writer as well as the working computer technician. This site is maintained at no charge to you, but that doesn't mean you can't help out. Writers and geeks all buy books all the time. You can help out by making use of the Better Books Bookstore to make your purchases. You get a deep discount on most books from Amazon and a tiny percentage of the sale goes into keeping this site alive. Trust me when I tell you; I ain't gettin' rich off this gig.
If you are a computer enthusiast, buy one of the books I've written. These books have gotten great reviews from everyone except reviewers with no sense of humor. There are a few people out there still stuck in the armchair line of thought that for a technical book to be good, it must be boring. I disagree. I take the same approach to writing textbooks as I do to writing fiction. If you enjoy reading it, you're more likely to get to the end.
For a quick overview of where things are, the Writer's Lounge offers a vast collection of magazine and book publishers with links to their websites and their writer's guidelines. You'll also find useful downloads, tips on manuscript formatting and building submissions packages and much more. The Geek's Hangout has pretty much the same types of materials, except it's targeted for the computer technician. Also, if you own one of my books, the downloads I mention in the text can be found in this space.
The newest addition (and still under construction) is The Photographer's Hangout. Here, I plan to assemble a collection of articles and tips on making good photographs; both digitally and using the more traditional methods. I also intend to feature photographer's portfolios -- if I can ever get a photographer to contribute.
Lamoille Lamentations is a pet project of mine. LL is an emerging E-zine that features new writers trying to get their first shot at the big leagues. Before you can play in the majors, you need to get some practice in the minor leagues. Lamoille Lamentatios may only be a farm club, but I'm happy to say -- it's MY farm club.
